Marco Schädler (1964), Composer

Marco Schädler was on March 2, 1964 in Chur, Switzerland, and grew up in Triesenberg, Liechtenstein. After his first years of musical education at the Liechtenstein Music School he studied music at the State Conservatory in Feldkirch, Austria (major subjects: composition with Robert Nessler and Gerold Amann; and piano with Josef Gstach); at the College of Music in Basel, Switzerland (main subjects: counterpoint with Dorothé Schubarth; harmonics with Detlev Müller-Siemens); at the Jazz School St. Gallen, Switzerland (Jazz theory with Markus Bischof), and with Markus Jans in Basel (historic composition theory).

Since 1988, Marco Schädler has been working as freelance composer. In the course of this activity, he has had the opportunity to meet top artists.  First performances by the “Virtuosi di Praga? in Prague, the “Amati-Quartett?, the “Ripieno Orchestra?, etc.; cooperation with the Italian director Firenza Guidi, the Viennese authr Barbara Frischmuth, etc. On May 2, 2012, the piece “Nocktürn? will be performed at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin.

Commissioned compositions for the World Fair 2000 in Hannover , Germany, as well as open air performances for the Liechtenstein national anniversary of 1999 and 2006.

Schädler’s work includes music for orchestra, chamber music, music for theater and film, music for modern dance, cabaret. Josef-Gabriel-Rheinberger prize and IBK sponsorship award 1999 for the cabaret program “Das Holding?, IBK sponsorship award 2007 for the play “König Jool der Letzte?.
